Nothing says Christmas to me like baking and gift wrapping. What a time saver to be able to combine the two. I found an awesome recipe from Brit and CO for adorable delicious gingerbread gift tags, but I saw Martha Stewart has one as well. Yes, you heard that right, the edible cookie you use as a gift tag. This makes you think why didn't I think of that! Here's the recipe, enjoy!:
INGREDIENTS:
3 cups flour
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
frosting
string or ribbon
straw
cookie cutters
INSTRUCTIONS:
In a medium bowl mix flour, ginger, cinnamon, baking soda and salt.
In another bowl mix together butter, and brown sugar. Add the molasses, egg, and vanilla. Beat in flour mixture till smooth. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours.
Set oven to 350 degrees. Roll out dough 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface.
Cut out the shapes with a cookie cutter. Add words or lettering if you like. Use a straw to cut a hole at the top.
Place them on a cookie sheet and bake for 8-10 minutes. Then let cool.
Decorate with the frosting and use string or ribbon to put through the hole to attach to your presents.
