FASCINATING FACTS BEHIND 5 CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS

Hello all,

We all celebrate Christmas every year, following the same traditions. But do you know how those traditions came about? They are very interesting and I'll share them with you. Here are fascinating facts behind 5  Christmas traditions:

1. Santa Claus - The story of Santa Claus began in the 4th century about a real man. He was Saint Nicolas. He was a bishop living in Turkey. He was a very rich kind man who actually gave secret gifts to the poor. His popularity grew throughout Europe, and stories were told that he could perform miracles. Because of his kindness he became a saint. He became the patron saint of Russia where he is drawn as having a red cape, and white beard.

2. Christmas trees -  Fir trees were decorated in 16th century Germany. The first person to bring the tree inside was a 16th century German preacher Martin Luther. He said the beauty of the stars coming through trees he saw in the forest made him recreate it by placing candles on a tree he brought inside. The first tree were decorated with apples and gingerbread. The first Christmas trees were brought to England by Queen Victoria's husband, Prince Albert who was from Germany.

MOUTHWATERING THANKSGIVING MARSHMALLOW SWEET POTATOES

Hello all,

When I think of November, I think of one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving. I just love getting together with family and friends. I also love all of the delicious recipes this time of year! My recipe for mouthwatering Thanksgiving marshmallow sweet potatoes is a tried and true family favorite.
I have used this recipe to make kick-ass marshmallow sweet potatoes since my kids were small. I always get a lot of compliments on them. They especially go well as a side dish for Thanksgiving. I think the secret is the addition of orange juice. They are very sweet. Here it is, Enjoy-

MARSHMALLOW SWEET POTATOES-

INGREDIENTS:
2 large cans of sweet potatoes ( I think they're about 23 ounces)
1/2 cup of butter
1/2 to 3/4 cup of orange juice
2 bags of mini marshmallows
1 tsp. cinnamon

DIRECTIONS:
Drain sweet potatoes into a bowl and smash with a potato masher.
Melt the butter and add it to the potatoes.
Add the orange juice.(I say 1/2 to 3/4 cup because you don't want them watery, but you want to taste the orange juice).
Add the cinnamon and stir.
Add a whole bag of mini marshmallows and mix well.
Spread into a  square 9 X 13 baking pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 mins.
Sprinkle the remaining bag of marshmallows on top of the potatoes and cook 5-10 more mins. until the marshmallows start to melt ( as many marshmallows as you like, I use half a bag).
Put the pan under the broiler for a few minutes if you want it browned ( I usually do for a few minutes).
Remove the pan, cool and enjoy. But be careful the marshmallows will be very hot!

3 MOUTHWATERING THANKSGIVING TURKEY RECIPES

Hello all,

When I think of Thanksgiving I think of family get togethers and delicious recipes, especially turkey. There are so many ways to cook it. I found 3 of the best mouth watering Thanksgiving turkey recipes for you to try! Let me know how they turn out:

1. MARTHA STEWART UPSIDE DOWN TURKEY - The benefits of roasting your turkey upside down makes your breast meat extra moist.

INGREDIENTS:

1 14 pound turkey
1 loaf ciabatta bread
1 stick unsalted butter, room temp
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
Kosher salt and fresh ground pepper
Halved figs, red, black and green grapes, sage and thyme sprigs for serving

DIRECTIONS:

In a bowl combine 1/2 cup salt and 1 tsp pepper. Rub mixture on turkey and inside body cavity. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate up to 24 hours.
Remove plastic from turkey and rinse turkey inside out and pat dry. Let stand and room temp for 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 425 degrees with the rack in the lower third of the oven. Tuck wings under turkey and tie drumsticks together with twine. Trim bread to length of turkey and slice horizontally. Butter the cut sides of the bread. On a V shaped wire rack set in the roasting pan, place buttered sides of the up. Place turkey breast-side down, so it rests on the bread. Roast 45 minutes.
Remove from oven and flip the turkey breast-side up. Pour broth into pan. Reduce oven to 350 degrees and baste with pan juices every 20 minutes until a thermometer inserted in thickest part of the thigh registers 165 degrees, about 2 hours more.
Transfer turkey to platter discard bread.  The bread was just used to keep the turkey breast from sticking. Set aside the pan drippings for gravy.  Let turkey stand 30 minutes and serve garnished with figs, grapes, sage, and thyme.

INGREDIENTS:

First brine the turkey-

Place fresh turkey in pot and add enough water to cover by 1 inch. Cover and refrigerate overnight not longer than 8 hours. Remove turkey and dry inside out before cooking.

1 12- 16 brined turkey
3 quarts peanut oil

DIRECTIONS:

Place turkey fryer in an open level dirt, cement, or grassy area. Heat 3 quarts peanut oil to 400 degrees (about 40 minutes to heat).
When oil reaches 400 degrees very slowly lower turkey in basket into the oil. check temp, increase or lower to maintain it at 375 degrees. Fry turkey 3 minutes per pound. Carefully lift from oil to check the temperature of the turkey. It should be 165 degrees in the thigh. When done remove from oil and drain on rack for a few minutes. Cover with foil and let stand 20 minutes before carving.

MY REVIEW OF THE ULTRA DURABLE EXPANDABLE GARDEN HOSE BY ASANI

I received compensation  in exchange for writing this review. Although this post is sponsored, all opinions are my own.

Hello all,

Living in Florida, we do yard work more than our northern friends. And with the weather always on the warm side, we water our lawns a lot. I recently have gotten an Ultra Durable Expandable Garden Hose with a Built in Shut off Valve by Asani. Let me tell you, my life just got that much easier!

This expandable hose expands to 3 times its size when water is running through it. That's to 50 feet! Now I don't have to drag that heavy hose around! This one is also a great quality one. It has durable fittings made of brass. The outside of the hose has a double latex core covered by a tough polyester fabric cover. Its tangle free, comes with a nozzle and carrying bag, and it's covered by a lifetime guarantee! It also has a built in shut off valve, so no more extra trips to the faucet. It is also lightweight, which is important to me!

This is a great, high quality garden hose and it is available through this link http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071VVL9XG on amazon for $24.99. With Christmas approaching, it would make a great gift!
